From unique art, to music and photography, check out the artists that will be featured at HHCLA's 30th Anniversary Celebration.
Photographer Karchi Perlmann was born in Budapest, Hungary and settled in Venice Beach where he quickly gained inspiration by creating series such as the “My Backyard” series, which depicts the “closing hours” of the area. Karchi also participated in a treatment program for teenagers with substance abuse, teaching photography as art, to inspire them to explore alternate forms of expression. His images have appeared in Architectural Digest, Time Magazine, Home and Garden, Gulfshore Life and various other publications.
Austrian born photographer Dietmar Kohl studied photography in Vienna and made the move to Los Angeles where he started exploring the streets of LA and got heavily influenced by the culture shock of the homeless population. Through sharing his photographs of DTLA’s heart wrenching living conditions, he inspires people to make a difference and see the goodness and beauty within any circumstance.
Adolph "Kush" Simpson's collages put images into cultural statements that speak of the essential nature of urbanism and his personal struggles. He uses his past struggles to create a unique, hieroglyphic style of art that is made to self heal. He has spent over half his life in and out of correctional facilities and credits his expressions in art as his mode of recovery.
East L.A.’s trio band El Haru Kuroi entertains with their unique, original sound influenced by styles of Mexican, South American, African and American Jazz. The trio just got back from a tour in Japan and frequently plays in the Los Angeles area.
Production Designer Jon Hutman is one of the most well known in the business. From working with Angelina Jolie on many of her films and receiving an Art Directors Guild award nomination for her film Unbroken, to working with powerhouses Robert Redford and Nancy Meyers, Jon has remarkable talent and an artistic vision that keeps him creating with some of the industry’s greatest. He is the master mind behind some of the most amazing sets homes in contemporary cinema.
